"Poetry is the rhythmical creation of Beauty."

I used to write poetry all the time. It was an easy way to impress people with my literary skills, as far as I was concerned. I used to get all sorts of praise for my poetry, and had several dozen pieces published in a variety of literary magazines over the years. But the truth was, there was no soul in my poetry. I crafted rhyme and verse into patterns that I thought looked and sounded good, but that meant nothing to me. I was missing half of what poetry is (and arguably the most important half): the emotion of the author bound in a cage of words, on display for all the world to see.

It wasn't until college that I rediscovered poetry, and began to write it the way it was meant to be written… with passion. Since then, I have written several poems relating to themes of transformation. The majority of these poems may be found here, in yet another area of the Menagerie.

Poetry

Bound By Flesh
I have always been deeply in love with Greek mythology. I suppose it was my first exposure to transformations (and there are plenty of changes in these myths and legends). This poem is about one of my favorite mythological figures… can you tell which one?

Dreams of Dusk
This is my second transformational sonnet. It is a bit darker than my first, and deals with the Children of the Wind, who will always hold a special place in my heart.

I Long to Be a Dolphin Free
What do you get when you cross an interest in British literature with an interest in transformations? A Shakespearean sonnet devoted to themes of metamorphoses! Or more than one sonnet…

On What Wings Dare I Aspire
This is one of my longer poems, one which deals with the theme of horror in life, but which at the same time maintains that there is always hope, and always something bright to look forward to.

Tears for a Lost Dream
Not every dream ends happily ever after. Many simply end.
